Teens 15 and up are welcome to take any of our adult classes with parent/guardian permission.

Teen Jewelry

Wearable art has been around since before there was fire.  Explore the MFA’s various collections of jewelry and work on ideas.  Silver, copper and brass are utilized while learning various methods of sawing, filing, riveting, soldering and polishing.  Students also carve wax, invest their piece and cast it in silver or bronze.

 

Teen Welding

Welding is a large part of our lives from the cars we drive to the buildings we live in, and has become prevalent in modern art.  Our welding students tour the MFA’s collection of welded sculpture, then practice various welding techniques at our studio.  Students explore gas welding, arc welding and learn to use the many machines involved in welding and finishing. 

Teen Stone Carving

In this class students learn to design an original shape in non-hardening clay, then reproduce it in Alabaster (a soft gypsum based stone). Useing hammers, chisels and files the shape will slowly be revealed. The final Sculpture will be sanded, polished and mounted if necesary. One piece of stone will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own piece of alabaster.
